The role of mTOR in bladder cancer

Recently, the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) has drawn growing attention in the treatment of a myriad of malignancies. mTOR is a serine/thre-onine-specific protein kinase within the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway and is involved in the regulation of proliferation, metabolism and motility. mTOR integrates signals from different origins such as growth factors, hormones, nutrients, oxygen level and is connected to other pathways, including the Wnt pathway (Figure I).
