Nonferrous Import Figures Announced for May

According to a June 27 announcement of customs clearance figures from the Ministry of Finance of May nonferrous imports, imports of copper (copper cathode, pieces, and other refined copper) were 22,500 tons, a decrease from the same month of the pervious year of 5.5 percent. Copper scrap was 27,000 tons, up 212.8 percent. Lead increased to 1,237 tons, and zinc (99.9 percent or more) climbed to 3,836 tons. By countries, 10,000 tons of copper cathode and pieces came from Chile, 3,800 tons from Zambia, 3,600 tons from the United States, 1,600 tons from Peru, and 1,500 tons came from the Philippines. For copper scrap, 19,000 tons was imported from South Africa, 2,000 tons from the United States, 1,500 tons from Singapore, and 1,000 tons from Malaysia.
