摘要

The technique of polishing is a technique of final finishing in the mechanical machining. The polishing technique is usually used to improve the surface roughness and to produce a glossy luster surfaces, and simultaneously to produce exact shapes. For example, flat grinding is a method for producing flat surfaces showing insignificant surface depressions and waviness. The mechanical grinding process advances as follows: when an abrasive harder than a workpiece is used, and when such hard abrasive particles are squeezed between the surface to be ground and the tool surface, they penetrate into the surface of a workpiece, which results in the removal of surface irregularities by the scratching action or by the rotation action. The phenomenon of the material removal by hard particles interposed between surfaces in contact is equal to the phenomenon of wear occurring in the abrasive wear mode in the field of tribology and the technique of mechanical grinding can be considered as an industrial technology making a positive use of abrasive wear.
