New or Little-known Tenebrionid Species (Coleoptera) from Japan (12) A Revisional Study of the Genus Byrsax PASCOE (Tenebrionidae, Tenebrioninae, Bolitophagini)

A revisional study of tenebrionid beetles of the genus Byrsax PASCOE from Japan is dealt with. Four new species and one new subspecies are described under the following names: Byrsax takakuwai sp. nov., B. lewisi sp. nov., B. nishinoi sp. nov., B. hiranoi sp. nov. and B. niponicus amamiensis subsp. nov. After examining the types of LEWIS, B. kimurai MIYATAKE, 1970 is regarded as a junior synonym of B. spiniceps LEWIS, 1894. Lectotypes are designated for Byrsax spiniceps LEWIS, 1894 and B. niponicus LEWIS, 1894. A key to all the species from Japan is provided.
