With a plethora of medical journals and a seemingly endless supply of peer-reviewed articles, physicians face the daunting task of identifying key manuscripts salient to maintaining competence in their core curriculum.The article by Weyandt and colleagues should not be overlooked. The authors have conclusively shown the advantages of using the scalp as a donor site for harvesting split-thickness skin grafts. Their innovation in the field, meticulous approach, and clarity in communication of their results is commendable. The advantages of using the scalp as a donor site include faster wound healing and less scar formation than on the thigh or buttock. With their surgical technique, they demonstrated a mean healing time for the total area of 5.4 +- 1.0 days. Dressing changes were found to be less painful, and overall acceptance among patients was high.
