The potential for natural gas

The president of BP shared his outlook on the role of gas in the future of energy during a speech at the World Gas Conference in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Tony Hayward said that BP projects the world will need 45% more energy in 2030 than it uses today. To meet this increased energy need, Mr. Hayward predicted an investment of $25-$30 trillion. As far as oil fits into this concept, he remarked that "declining production from existing fields, coupled with new demand, means we'll have to bring on nearly 50 million bpd of new production over that time-almost twice the current level of production in the Middle East."
