Blowers and vacuums are invaluable in the autumn for dealing with leaf collection, but many are useful at other times of the year for removing litter or debris brought down by high winds. Handheld blowers can also be used to blow gravel or dew off grassed areas prior to mowing or for drying picnic benches and seating after a shower. Wheeled, mounted and trailed vacuums can speed up moss and thatch collection after scarification on lawns and sports turf. Wheeled and tractor-mounted units are suitablefor use on extensive areas such as pitches and golf courses, while handheld units are best for clearing small amounts of leaves or debris and for quick tidy-up jobs. Some handheld blowers can be converted to vacuums but should have a good internal shredding mechanism to maximise the amount of debris that can be collected. Wheeled vacuums find work in many situations. They may have brushes in addition to powerful suction, making them suitable for collecting wet and sticky leaves. Some are also suited tostreet-cleansing operations and may have a handy wander hose to collect litter from nooks and crannies or to help empty litter bins.
