There is a widespread belief that this year's market for Christmas trees will be better than ever, with high prices and steady demand. But the tough economic climate means at least some consumers are likely to trade down to smaller trees or cheaper varieties, say market representatives. Over the past few years, Christmas tree growers have fared reasonably well. Around eight million trees are sold in this country every year, and prices have consistently edged upwards. Most of these trees are grown here in the UK, and growers have reaped the rewards of these good years.
