Park life better with community backing

Community involvement has never been more central to the management of open spaces. With Best Value in full flight, the concept of consultation is evident from local authority work up and down the country. This benefits the councils when the Audit Commission's Best Value team comes knocking - and of course local people get a better deal out of their parks and green spaces. A fine example of community involvement is Bristol's St Agnes Park, which dates from the 1880s. The site, in the St Paul's area,picked up the Institute of Leisure & Amenity Management's Open Space Management Award 2001.
