Scotland-based Angus Soft Fruits managing director Lochy Porter has two reasons to crack open the champagne and celebrate the success of the grower group. The first is that Angus Soft Fruits, which supplies 10 per cent of the strawberries and 40 per cent of the raspberries eaten in the UK, has just won the Supreme Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Award for its pesticide-free brand Good Natured Fruit. The second is that the group's AVA strawberry variety, which was first launched onto the British market in 2001, has become such a hit across the Channel that a new growers' group, the Aromio Red Growers' Association, has formed to represent those who grow the variety in Europe.
