When a tree is cut down, be it because of rot or for safety or development, it leaves another problem in its wake: the stump. Traditionally stumps that could not be left in the ground to rot away slowly were winched out, burned, bulldozed, chopped and even dynamited. Thankfully, in the past 20 years, stump removal has been made much easier with the introduction from the US of the stump grinder - or stump cutter as they are known the States.
