Landscape designers will finally get their hands on some lottery cash. The announcement in August of a shortlist of candidates for the Big Lottery Fund's 140m Living Landmarks offers the industry the opportunity to create some groundbreaking public spaces at locations spread across the UK. Britain's parks have already benefited greatly from the Heritage Lottery Fund, to the tune of over f 400m since the launch of its parks programme 10 years ago - but so far these have been restoration programmes aimed at returning public parks to their prime rather than creating new spaces.
