New recruits, often already skilled, are increasingly entering horticulture via volunteering.Stick a pin in a calendar these days and you're likely to land on a volunteer day, week, month or year. We are currently in both the year of the volunteer (not to be confused with the international year of volunteers -that was 2001) and volunteers' week(1-7 June). We still have Make a Difference day to look forward to on 29 October and international volunteer day on 5 December.
