The Maritime Program of St Mary’s City, site of the original capital of Maryland, is beginning the process of researching, designing, and commissioning the building of a recreation of the smaller of two vessels that carried settlers from England to Chesapeake Bay in the early 1630s. This vessel was the pinnace Dove. Although there are several accounts of the voyage, and although the city built a ship to fill this role in the mid-1970s and performed much research at that time, we are seeking substantial help in this second iteration.
