The vegetable greenhouse

My surname means "worker of the land" in Italian so I guess my interest in growing food goes back to ancient times. I am a printing salesman and work with people in person, on the phone, by email and I drive around a lot to visit clients. So, after hours and on weekends, I very much enjoy a change of pace by growing things, my wife prefers flowers but I always tend towards things we can eat. Probably another Italian manifestation.I live 2 miles up a windy hill from the ocean on Monterey Bay. If it's not breezy than it is probably foggy, so growing vegetables is always a challenge. Heirloom tomatoes have been fashionable around here for 20 years but they require heat and sun so itwas natural to get a greenhouse if I wanted good tasting tomatoes instead of those pinkish green things in the grocery stores. Heirloom tomato salsa and catsup are heavenly. Also, I wanted to start my own seedlings, especially for Japanese vegetables for my Japanese wife things she can't buy at the local store.
