PEANUTS!

Are you looking for something new to grow in the greenhouse? Everyone likes a different challenge or experiment for their greenhouses. If you have a heated greenhouse over winter, or if your greenhouse is not cooled during summer you should consider growing peanuts. While you will probably not be able to grow a large enough quantity to make your own peanut butter, a few plants will yield enough fruit to make your own roasted peanuts. Most people north of Virginia have never thought about growing their own peanuts, or for that matter, how peanuts grow. No, they do not grow on trees. Instead a peanut comes from a plant smaller than a geranium. Each plant stays around the size of a 4"x6" picture frame. They have small green leaves with a bushy shape. The plant blooms like your typical vegetable with a petite saturated yellow blossom, which is about half the size of a penny.
