Nowhere in the world are people as obsessed with their front lawns as in America. They spend huge amounts of money on them, even endangering themselves and their families with chemicals, just to have perfect looking lawns. I was aware of other possibilities from traveling and living in Europe. In Germany, for instance, most front yards are fenced in and people might grow some flowers, but the space is largely devoted to fruit trees, berries and other edibles. Some homes might have grass in the front, but they also have berry bushes and fruit trees.
