We Have a Winner!

We have a winner! That was the subject line of the e-mail sent to members of the Boston Chapter of Hobby Greenhouse Association, on March 13th, judging day for the 2012 Boston Flower Show. Art Scarpa had taken the "Small Bay Window at the Flower Show"project from the idea phase to Blue Ribbon status! Art planned the Bay Window display, recorded all necessary paperwork, readied plants for display, and chose only those plants that were in perfect condition on entry day. The "Judges Comments" stated: "Overall appearance and selection of plants exquisite." Two plants received Cultural Certificates of the Mass. Horticultural Society ("awarded to growers of plants which show evidence of unusually skillful cultivation"). They were a beautiful Rhipsalidopsis gaertneri (miniature Easter Cactus), and a blooming Veltheimia bracteata. Except for two indoor primroses, all the plants in the display came from Art's personal collection. The two indoor primroses, grown from seed by Hobby Greenhouse member, RodneyBarker, added delicate, colorful flowers to the display.
