All About Bugs

With the first warm breezes and longer days of sunshine, the bug population reintroduces itself into our lives. Ugh! Boxelder Bugs and Multicolored Asian Lady Beetles are two pesjiy critters that arrive early, on the sunny, warm side of homes and greenhouses, as well as other buildings. Boxelder bugs, also called garage beetles or maple bugs need no introduction. They are everywhere. Growing up in the Midwest, my parents, who were staunch Republicans, called the annoying creatures "democrats". I didn't know that wasn't their name until I was an adult. The black and red adult bugs overwinter under siding, in cracks and crevices along foundations, and other protected places with south and west exposures.
