Comparative efficacy of herbicides on wet seeded rice

Weeds are considered to be one of the major problems in realizing potential yields in rice cultivation. Weed competition takes heavy toll through reduction in yield and it depends upon method of rice cultivation, weed species and their time of emergence etc. In direct seeded rice, weed infestation in early stages of crop growth is severe and requires efficient methods of weed control in order to get better crop growth and ultimately higher yields,"Hand weeding though effective, is cumbersome and time consuming. In addition, labour scarcity and increasing labour wages makes hand weeding less profitable. Herbicides have proved effective in reducing weed competition. Now a days, combined products of herbicides are available in the market and their relative efficiencies are to be assessed for effective weed control. Hence, the present field experiment was carried out to find out the comparative efficiency of weed control methods on direct seeded rice under puddled conditions.
