Residual effect of inorganic nitrogen, composted coirpith and biofertilizer on yield and uptake of soybean in an Inceptisol

Field experiments conducted with integrated nitrogen management under sorghum-maize-soybean revealed that the residual effect of inorganic N at 90 and 180 kg ha~(-1) (N_3) applied to the preceding crops registered the grain yield of 1292 kg ha~(-1) in soybean with 15.1 per cent yield improvement over zero N. The super imposing of composted coirpith (CP) and bio fertilizer (BF) or both (CP+BF) exhibited a distinct residual advantage with yield improvement of 2.90, 6.06 and 8.88 per cent over inorganic N alone. The highest grain yield of 1333 kg ha~(-1) was observed due to the residual effect of N3 with CP+BF. The uptake of N, P and K by soybean in the sequence was also favourably influenced by the residual effect of various modes of N.
