Identification of efficient rice cropping zone for Tamil Nadu

Rice is a major crop in Tamil Nadu. It occupies an area of 21.8 lakh ha with a production of 68 lakh t office (FAI., 1994). Though, in general production is increasing year after year, productivity and production are declining in some of the areas due to constriants such as land, labour, capital, irrigation etc. Therefore this uneconomical rice area should be identified and suitable allotted to other efficient crops in order to achieve the sustainable productivity.
