Prospects for the Textile and Clothing Industry in Vietnam

Vietnam's textile and clothing industry plays a major role in the country's economy and is its largest manufacturing sector. It provides employment for about 2 mn people in the country and constitutes its principal source of foreign exchange. Textile and clothing exports have risen sharply in recent years, and in 2011 alone they increased by 25.5% to US$15.83 bn. Moreover, the momentum was maintained during the first nine months of 2012 with shipments up by 7.4% compared with the corresponding period of the previous year, to US$11.14 bn.
