World Markets for Textile Machinery:Part 1-Yarn Manufacture

2005 was another bad year for the international textile machinery market-following a poor performance in 2004.In all sectors other than short staple spindles,there were falls in shipments to the world's mills.In the spinning sector,deliveries of long staple spindles fell again in 2005,but the rate of decline was limited to single digits following three years of double digit decreases during 2002-04.Sales of open-end rotors also fell-by 9.9%-but,unlike the long staple sector,the fall came on top of 20% growth a year earlier.Purchases of short staple spindles however,continued to rise-by 6.7%-following increases in both 2003 and 2004.The global drop in open-end rotor sales was shared among many countries.Deliveries to Chinese mills fell by 1.2% but the country's global share grew.Turkey bore the brunt of the global fall with shipments dropping by 52%-or 20,000 rotors.As a result the country dropped to fourth position in the rankings after China,Brazil and India.By contrast,fast growing markets for open-end rotors included Brazil,Iran,Austria and Ukraine.Deliveries of draw texturing machinery fell by 22% in 2005,following growth of 76% a year earlier.Shipments of single heater spindles fell by 48%,adding to a 9.3% drop in 2004.Sales of double heater spindles declined by 21%,thus partially reversing an 82% surge in 2004.
