Winemaking or vinification starts with the selection of grapes. Yeast is added to the grapes as a catalyst; converting the sugar in the grapes into alcohol. Here, we look at how Verderflex pumps are used in the brewery industry to remove yeast from fermented wine before it is ready for consumption. After harvesting the grapes, they are taken to a winery for fermentation. Red grapes are made from the pulp fermented along with the skin, which gives it the real colour. Whereas white wine is made by fermenting the jusice extracted from grapes.
