Prices Rise in Asia, Make Smaller Gains in Europe

Spot prices in Northeast Asia rose by 450 to $17.40 per million Btu over the week on strong summer demand and in Southwest Europe by 100 to $12 as reloads from Spain increased, according to WGI assessments for spot cargoes four to eight weeks out. Cooler May weather pulled up day-ahead prices at the National Balancing Point (NBP) by 270 to $9.91/MMBtu, as assessed by WGI. May futures gained 60 to $9.39/MMBtu. Recent price changes left netbacks for Mideast sellers around $5/MMBtu high- er on Asian than on Southwest Europe deliveries, while UK and Belgian netbacks lagged Asia by roughly $8/MMBtu.
