Cheniere Poised To Make US Export Debut

At the start of the year, the first-ever LNG exports from the US lower 48 were said to be only days away. Fast forward to late February and exports from Cheniere Energy's Sabine Pass project in Louisiana are still said to be only days away. This time, however, the revolution in global gas markets might actually be about to begin. The LNG carrier Asia Vision docked at Sabine Pass on Feb. 21 after drifting off the area since Feb. 2. As the vessel didn't immediately unload, Boston-based consultancy Genscape suspects it is empty and poised to carry the first cargo. Cheniere has declined to comment beyond confirming the ship had arrived. Another potential carrier is the 160,000 cubic meter Energy Atlantic, which ship tracking services show loitering in the US Gulf of Mexico. Both vessels are understood to be under long-term charter to Cheniere.
