Recently appointed manager at Midland Pig Producers' Branston unit in Lincolnshire, Dean Bram-mer pays tribute to his predecessor, Roy Holmes, who has now retired. He learned a lot from him and perhaps only now realises all that is involved in managing a unit. Like most people working with pigs, Dean is a hands-on type, so I suspect he has found it a challenge to spend more time in the office. He and his team of five work well together, and share new ideas. No extra staff have been employed since Roy retired, which adds a bit of pressure. But Roy is at the end of a telephone and happy to offer advice.
