Vie are delighted to bring you an insight into February 2005 on the farm, with Brian Oxley, Technical Manager at Monaghan Mushrooms - Langford. At last some good composting weather! After the strong winds of the last couple of weeks we now have some still, cold mornings. There have been virtually no frosts this winter so far, so the current high pressure over the country is very welcome. It is a real delight to drive onto the farm in the mornings and pick up in the headlights the clouds of steam rising from the phase 1 stacks. A close examination of the phase 1 confirms that it is working hard and 'sweating out' all along the rows. This is so different from the previous week when the wind was driving the temperature out of one side of the stack andrapidly drying it out.
