New Challenges for Environmental Protection

Prof. Dr.-lng. MARTIN FAULSTICH is Chair of The Advisory Council on the Environment (SRU), which was founded in 1971 to advise the German government. It consists of seven university professors from a range of different environment-related disciplines.The interdisciplinary SRU is fully independent to determine the focus and scope of its reports. As the SRU does not represent any economic interests, it enjoys authority as a non-partisan voice of scientific expertise and provides principles-based analyses and recommendations. Water and Waste: What are the current key activities of the SRU? Martin Faulstich: One of our main concerns at the moment is energy - which is no surprise given the huge importance of this issue for the present work of government. We have published scenarios on the future of electricity supply in Germany last May, and we will launch a longer report on this issue before the end of the year.
