Its performance was regarded as 'sensational' and 'stunning'; every sports car enthusiast and petrol-head wanted one, it was the car of choice for motorsport competitors and racing drivers, it provided the most fun that you could have on wheels, and created what we now know as the 'hot hatch' category.
