DESPITE DISTINCTLY unseasonal wet and windy weather, we had a reasonable turnout for our second track day of the year, at Mallory Park, near Hinckley in Leicestershire on Saturday June 30. Over 30 drivers of Volkswagen Group models, including six SEATs and 11 Audis, turned out to make a day of it. Rather than putting a damper on things, the slippery surface only added to the challenge of high-performance car-control, which is really what track days are all about. The wet circuit means that the limits of adhesion can be found at lower speeds, without such strain on the drivetrain and wear on tyres, and driving skill becomes much more of a factor...
