AS ENERGY demand continues to rise, and the price of oil follows suit, so should our concern over the future availability of the fuels we know so well, but don't necessarily love. While it is important to encourage energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy, it is also vital that we explore the alternative fuel options currently available, and there are quite a few. Of those options, synthetic fuels are particularly interesting as they can quite readily provide a bridge between the petrochemical fuels upon which we are so dependent, and the longer-term solutions we've been hearing about for years but never actually see - notably hydrogen power, particularly the fuel cell.
