'VOLKSWAGEN AGAIN DID ITS BIT TO FURTHER THE DIESEL CAUSE IN AMERICA...' WHAT'S HAPPENING in the States then? I read that diesel sales there have reached an all-time high, yet they're supposed to loathe the bloody things. I'm not the magazine s U.S. correspondent (I'm just not pretty enough), but now and again things happening on that market just catch my eye, and if they happen to gel with my usual technical interests, I like to relate them to you. The relative might of the diesel market could be something to do with the fact that fuel prices have surged across The Pond - well, on both sides of The Pond, although fuel increases are nothing new on this side - the average U.S. price rising to USD2.92 a gallon very recently. Apparently this is the highest price since Last September, and it represents an increase of 13 per cent from the start of April, according to Energy Department figures.
