Fast and fresh!

Alongside the Beetle Cabriolet, Volkswagen chose the French Riviera as the perfect place to present the Golf R Cabriolet to the press... AS REPORTED IN the July issue of Volkswagen Driver that year, we first saw the Golf R Cabriolet at the GTI Festival in Worthersee, Austria, way back in June 2011. At that time it was presented purely as a concept, alongside the GTI Cabriolet, which was subsequently launched at the Worthersee festival in 2012 and featured in the July 2012 issue of Volkswagen Driver. Although perfectly plausible, no-one really thought that the R version would come to fruition, but - since the success of the GTI Cabriolet, powered by the 210 PS 2.0 TSI - Volkswagen has obviously seen fit to venture into the market with an even higher performing soft-top Golf. It was announced in early February and recently presented to the press alongside the Beetle Cabriolet at an international launch in Nice, on the French Riviera.
