The 'bus is back!

Volkswagen's Microbus concept has resurfaced, although this time more micro than bus. EVER SINCE IT made its debut, a decade ago, at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2001, there has been much conjecture and speculation about whether Volkswagen would actually go into production with a modernised people-carrying version of the classic VW Transporter. That concept vehicle, featured in a 4-page article by Tom Janiszewski in our March 2001 issue, was dubbed the Microbus. It's a term which had originally been used many years before, primarily on the American market, for the original VW 'Kleinbus', the passenger-carrying version of the Split-screen T1 Transporter of the 1950s.
