NON-FERROUS METALS QUALITY -- THE FOUNDATION FOR DEVELOPMENT OF THE MACHINERY INDUSTRY

Non-ferrous metallurgy supplies machinery complexes and other divisions of the national economy with non-ferrous, refractory, and rare metals and alloys, rolled products, semiconductor and carbon-graphite materials, and hard-alloy products. The technical level of machines, equipment, and devices as well as other techniques are significantly determined by the quality of the non-ferrous metal products. In 1986-1989, non-ferrous metallurgy organizations and enterprises adopted measures to improve the quality of practically all forms of products being produced. A directive of the CC CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR, dated May 12, 1986, called for the adoption of " Measures to Basically Improve Product Quality." In response, enterprises developed and implemented a "quality" program which called for bringing all products up to international standards and for maximum efforts to meet consumer requirements.
