Many years ago I wrote about marine insurance, highlighting some of the things that caused owners problems when they made a claim. From this article one major insurer actually changed their policy details. I was very proud of how we'd managed to instigate this improvement and made a vow to return to the subject years later. Since that article the world has changed in many ways, especially for insurance companies. They have faced major claims from floods, fires and a major cyclone. From these experiences they've tightened up many areas of policies. For this reason we consumers have to be more careful and discerning when signing up for a new marine policy. At the same time, the security of our boat needs to be up to scratch. I constantly hear about boats and tackle being stolen and garages being emptied of beloved fishing gear. It's frightening to know just how big the illegal boat rebirthing business has become. Many boats are stolen and motors swapDed, hulls painted and then resold to unsuspectingbuyers.
