As an obstetrics and gynecology resident physician, I certainly agree with Burrow (2012) that societal pressures push women to consider elective cesarean deliveries. These same societal forces as well as personal intrinsic factors also influence physicians toward performing cesarean deliveries. As physicians, we have an obligation to examine these intrinsic and external pressures and fully counsel our patients regarding the risks and benefits of the various modes of delivery.
