What We Publish; Why It Matters

I have access to a website sponsored by SciVerse ScienceDirect that lists JANAC's Top 25 Hottest Articles sorted by my choice of time period. "Hottest articles" are defined as the most read articles measured by downloads on ScienceDirect. Being read by other authors is important for people who write and publish because it validates the effort: The article has demonstrated value to other authors, it has the potential to contribute to other people's work, and it has helped advance science or philosophy or the creative process. Knowing that articles edited by the JANAC editorial team and published in JANAC are being downloaded and read is also important to me. I get a similar satisfaction that an author might get (after all, I helped disseminate valuable information, I midwifed something good), but it goes a bit further. When an article is downloaded, it markets that journal in a way nothing else can.
