Obedience Lite

摘要

Jerry M. Burger's (2009) partial replication of StanleyMilgram's (1963, 1965, 1974) classic experiments on obe-dience to authority is considered from the viewpoint of acontributor and witness to the original obedience experi-ments. Although Burger's replication succeeded in terms ofgaining the approval of his local institutional reviewboard, it did so by removing a large portion of the stressfulcircumstances that made Milgram's findings so psycholog-ically interesting and so broadly applicable to instances ofreal-world destructive obedience. However, Burger hasprovided an initial demonstration that his "obedience lite"procedures can be used to extend the study of certainsituational and personality variables beyond those exam-ined by Milgram.
