Rio Tinto to Sell Coal Assets in Mozambique

On July 30, Rio Tinto plc announced its intention to sell several coal assets in Mozambique including Benga coal mine as a single package to International Coal Ventures Private Limited (ICVL), India. The sellout amount is US$50 million. The sellout of these assets is scheduled to finish in the 3rd quarter (July - September) of 2014. Benga coal mine is an existing coal mine in the Tete Province, and Rio Tinto has a 65% interest in this coal mine. 1.622 million tons of coal was produced at this coal mine in 2013. The product split was 868,000 tons of hard coking coal and 754,000 tons of thermal coal.
