On 5th July, Mechel OAO announced to have started metallurgical coal imports from the Unites States. The imports of 73,500 MT of metallurgical coal produced by its subsidiary Mechel Bluestone of the United States were made for the first time. The metallurgical coal has already arrived at Port Mechel Temryuk. In addition on 1st July, the second cargo of US metallurgical for import was loaded at Norfolk to Panamax size vessel which will arrive at Russia in later half July. On May 8, 2009, Mechel bought out metallurgical coal assets of US coal producer, Bluestone Coal Corp. and obtained eight opencut concessions and five underground concessions.
