IS ASSISTED PERITONEAL DIALYSIS AN ALTERNATIVE TO IN-CENTER HEMODIALYSIS?

In this issue of Peritoneal Dialysis International, Lobbaedez and colleagues describe their experience with assisted peritoneal dialysis (PD) in a French dialysis unit (1). The study provides new insights into this modality and highlights several important considerations. Is assisted PD a safe and cost-effective alternative to traditional in-center hemodialysis (HD)? If so, what constitutes "assistance" and who is an appropriate candidate for assistance? FinalLy, what are the methodological challenges involved in designing studies to evaluate assisted PD?
