Successful management of an obstructed tenckhoff catheter using an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) cytology brush.

A 14-year-old female with end-stage renal disease of unknown etiology had been doing well on peritoneal dialysis (PD) for 24 months, apart from intermittent impaired outflow, which responded to flushing with heparin. Subsequently, she developed fixed PD catheter malfunction affecting inflow and outflow. A trial of vigorous instillation of dialysate and other conservative simple measures were employed but were unsuccessful. Manipulation of the PD catheter under fluoroscopic guidance was planned. When radiocontrast was injected, an intraluminal obstruction just proximal to the pelvic located coiled part of the catheter was ascertained. An ERCP cytology brush (Olympus BC-23Q; Olympus Optical, Tokyo, Japan) was chosen to attempt to reLieve the intraluminal obstruction.
