The authors present an interesting study of the willingness of a Japanese population to pay dollar25 out of pocket to undergo PSA screening, even after being educated as to the potential negative consequences of such screening. This was observed in a government-run healthcare setting. I can only hypothesize that given the controversy surrounding the use of mammography in the United States, and its similarities as a screening test to PSA, a U.S. population would be willing to pay the same or even more, given the same evidence.
