Afield scout has a responsibility and that is to implement a key component to the integrated pest management approach. Scouts are to search, report and destroy the enemy lurking in the fields. The enemy comes in various forms. For example, in the spring scouts need to look for early blight. Potato pathologist Jeff Miller of Miller Research in Twin Falls, Idaho, says, "You should be looking for early signs of early blight oil the lower leaves."
