Flame Retardant Demand Heats Up

U.S.demand for flame retardants will increase 6.5%/year,to us1.3 billion in 2008,according to a study by The Freedonia Group (Cleveland).Volumes will grow 3.1%/year,to more than 1 billion Ibs,Freedonia says.The study breaks down flame retardants into four main categories:alumina trihydrate,antimony trioxide,bromine compounds,and phosphorus compounds.Brominated flame retardants will have the fastest sales growth,improving 7%/year,to us600 million.Antimony trioxide sales are forecast to rise 6.8%/year,to us110 million;and phosphorus flame retardants,6.2%,to us355 million.
