A report from SPACE 2003, the Brittany-based livestock show where the broiler industry was wondering if it had a future and egg farmers were thinking enriched cages, without the trimmings. Forty years ago, the French government had a master plan to supply the world with frozen chicken and, at the same time, provide jobs for those displaced by self-government for Algeria. There were export subsidies grants to those ready to become chicken farmers in Brittany and the empires of Doux, Borgoin, Tilly Unicopa and others were established.
