Zambia experienced rapid expansion in poultry producing averaging 36%/year between 1965 and 1975. The agricultural sector's contribution to the GDP in the 1984-1986 increased from K332.2 million to K368.8 million, as a result the industry has emergedas one of the big employers in the agricultural sector in Zambia. While the growth rate of the Zambian population averaged 3.2%/year from 1964 to about 1984, the average growth of the agricultural industry was about 2.4%/year.
